Secondary Lymphoedema

Secondary lymphoedema is caused by damage of the lymphatic system. The main causes are:

  • Lymph node removal for e.g treatment of cancer
  • Radiotherapy to nodal areas
  • Tumour blockage due to advanced disease
  • Injury to large areas of skin e.g. burns, degloving injury
  • Necrotising fasciitis
